What do you charge for domestic US shipping? I don't. Shipping on all orders within the United States is free.
Free? Yes, shipping is free - in other words, it's included in my already discounted prices.
(This
is where you say "WOW! What a deal! That's GREAT!" And, I say "Yes, I
know! How great is it as a fellow knitter and yarn lover that I can
provide you with such great yarns at equally great prices!" It's an all around [yarn] love fest.)
What do you charge for International shipping?
Sadly, I can't do as well on this one. There are many reasons why, here
are a few... 1) It flat out costs a ton to ship overseas, no matter
where it's going. 2) I have to actually drive each package to the Post
Office which costs time and (ARGH!) gasoline. (Domestic packages are
picked up daily.) So, International rates are as follows:
$15.00 for the first item, and $1.50 for each additional. I've found
that those rates actually extend approximately the same shipping
discount to my international customers as the free domestic shipping
does for my US customers.
By what means do you ship?
Truth: The cheapest possible. If under 13 ounces, your items will ship
via USPS First Class. If over, they'll go USPS Parcel Post.
International shipments will arrive via USPS International Priority
(not flat rate). Occasionally, the cheapest means of shipping for me
will be USPS Priority Flat rate ...but that's rare.
Backordered items ship via Priority Mail (this is a new policy as of 3/29/2008).
Shipment Notification & Tracking
All shipping methods come w/ tracking which you receive once your order is en route.
HOWEVER (and I could go on and on and on about this), I'll be frank...the USPS, well, they sort of suck. ("So,"
you ask, "Why do you use them to ship?" I answer, " 'Cause it's the
cheapest and if I'm going to discount my yarn at all and give you free
shipping, I've got to watch the bottom line, folks.")
Anyway... technically, the USPS provides tracking (it's an
additional $.18 per shipment right now, I'm sure they'll increase those
rates here shortly.) but sometimes your package will actually arrive to
you, before the silly tracking system even acknowledges that it's been
shipped. Other times, it's moderately better and only lags about two
days behind where you shipment is. Whatever. It's the best, cheapest
alternative we have right now. If I could get UPS to work out, I would.
Shipping & Handling Times
Items in stock ship within 48-72 hours, seven days a week and often I
pack your orders even on holidays. If your item has gone onto
backorder, you will be notified of the expected ship date. Once the
item arrives to me, it ships the next possible shipping day - no exceptions. If it comes in on Friday, it ships on Saturday. Period.
You've waited for it, so I get it out fast. Backorders will ship via Priority Mail. If you'd like to check in on the status of your order, before shipping, please click on the "Order Status" link to the left of any page. You'll need your email address and order number. Oh wait! You don't have your order number? You have six email addresses and don't remember which one you used to place the order? No worries. Shoot me an email (yarngirl@yarnlove.com) and we'll get you squared away.
